The Little Things

The Little Things.jpgIt’s been over a month since my last Rock The Week post and, surprise, surprise, I’ve really missed recording little snippets of my life on this ol’ blog. Rock The Week started as a way of celebrating small things such as a new exercise routine, a gig I’d been to or a favourite recipe. I’d wait until Sunday afternoon to write each post, reflecting on the last seven days, but life would often get in the way, making the RTW series a chore rather than a post I looked forward to writing.

After a bit of time off I’ve decided to start a new series, The Little Things, to reflect on life’s best its that don’t necessarily fit into other blog posts. I’ll be posting every few weeks rather than religiously every Sunday afternoon. If you have a similar series please link it up in the comments – I love reading these kinds of posts!

Blogging about: Why I haven’t shopped in Primark for over a year, one of Bristol’s best kept secrets and a cheeky chop.
Listening to: Water Fountain by Tune-Yards, Joan As Police Woman, and Lauren Laverne’s takeover of Women’s Hour, featuring Caitlin Moran. We also took a road trip to London on Friday to see Janelle Monáe at the Brixton Academy, who was phenomenal.
Watching: The new season of Game of Thrones (I’m still struggling to believe what happened at the end of the second episode) and my guilty pleasure, America’s Next Top Model.
Buying: Tulips and fashion magazines.
Reading: Everyday Sexism by Laura Bates. Everyone, regardless of gender, needs to read this book. Here’s what I thought of it. I also stumbled across Claire’s post on the changing face of her blog, which really struck a chord with me.
Doing: A spot of camping in the Gower. To celebrate my birthday and make the most of the long Easter weekend, six of us upped sticks to the south of Wales for a couple of days, until the wet weather got the best of us – wholesome British fun at its best. Today my friend Hannah and I also ran the Bristol 10k. I wanted complete the course in under an hour and I’m chuffed to say that I managed it in just over 58 minutes!
Visitng: San Francisco (see what I wore here), Cornwall and Bath.
Eating: Homemade Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and Oreo brownies (based on this recipe).
Making: A piece of embroidery I’ve been toiling away on for over three years is almost finished, I’m so excited that it’s nearly finished!
Wearing: A colossal (for me) pair of Topshop shoes.
Shooting: With my new instant camera. Mr Ship-Shape bought me a FujiFilm Instax Mini for my birthday in April, and I’ve been carrying it around with me ever since. My mission is to find some patterned film, like the kind Michelle has, to making instant photography even more exciting.
Enjoying: The first barbecue of the year, which took place on Sunday. We travelled to Oxfordshire and spent the afternoon soaking up the sunshine, catching up with friends and eating our bodyweight in (veggie) burgers and salad.
Looking forward to: Hearing Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett and Holly Baxter of The Vagenda speak at the Watershed tonight as part of the Bristol Festival of Ideas.

Ah, it’s great fun – still getting used to the exposure settings, but it’s so much fun to use : )

I love Game of Thrones, I read the books but I was still shocked by what happened in the second episode. Hope that you find the patterned film you’re after xo PolkaDotLemon

Thanks! I’m tempted to read the books but I don’t want to start from the beginning – I don’t think my emotions could handle the Red Wedding a second time…

Yay! I have an instax mini, it was my graduation present :) if you want to go halves on a film haul then I would be well up for that, I’ve been meaning to buy some rainbow film for ages!

Oh wow, congrats on completing the 10k – at least you work off your brownies, unlike me! ;) x

Thank you – doesn’t take much for me to be able to justify eating brownies ;)

Ooh nice new header mrs, did you make that yourself? I need to do a new one soon.
Loving the new Little Things post too. When life (and the blog) is busy it’s great to have a monthly round-up to review what’s been going on. Life sounds really good for you at the moment. P.S. I might have to pick your brains re running at some point xx

Ah thank you – I did indeed! It’s a double exposure I took on my lomo camera last year and I felt like it would shake up the decor a bit! Always more than happy to chat about running – thinking about blogging about it at some point, too. x
