The Little Things #18 – Triathlons and Travel

Palm Springs
April was such a busy month for me, and as such it went by in a flash. The first half of the month I was gearing up for my first triathlon, and the second half was dominated with adventures to Palm Springs and Seattle. Here are some of the Little Things that made it such a magic month.

Blogging about: My favourite feminist podcasts and an upcoming fitness challenge.
Watching: A slew of Marvel films, in preparation for Avengers: Infinity War, which we finally saw this week. All I’ll say is that it felt like watching an entire season of Game of Thones in one sitting. Make of that what you will… I also really enjoyed watching the new Tiny Shoulders: Rethinking Barbie documentary on Hulu.
Making: So many lists – April was a month of preparation, from planning what I needed for my triathlon, to packing for two mini vacations.
Buying: Fresh salmon from Pike Place Market in Seattle (see my Seattle Instagram Story for the reason why that was magical).
Reading: Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng, and The Cows by Dawn O’Porter. The former was such a joy to read that I’m already half way through Ng’s first novel, Everything I Never Told You.
Listening to: More feminist podcasts and Janelle Monaé’s new album, Dirty Computer. Stand out tracks for me are Crazy, Classic, Life and Make Me Feel. And that Pynk video, obviously.
Wearing: Sun hats and shorts, as I spent a long weekend in Palm Springs, which was just the ticket after a stressful start to the month. It was a little too hot for me (35+ degrees!), but I made the most of the sun umbrellas surrounding the pool, and a suitcase of bikinis and floaty blouses.
Eating: Salted caramel cupcake ice cream from Cupcake Royale in Seattle, and a delicious ‘Friday Night Chicken Dinner’ at our hotel in Palm Springs.
Enjoying: Taking a break after competing in my first triathlon. I wrote about how I was feeling before the race and I won’t lie, it was tough! I was pretty stringent with my training plan, so towards the end of the month I enjoyed a couple of weeks off, traveling to Palm Springs and Seattle and taking a break from the gym.
Looking forward to: Another road trip! We’re taking our vintage Mustang on the road again for a week and I can’t wait.
